Helichopper - Information
Helichopper was a deceptively simple looking arcade shoot 'em up. The game was played on the same screen for each level. In the bottom right corner was an electric fence. On the right side of the fence was a clone, waiting to be rescued. The player had to land the Helichopper on the other side of the fence. The fence would then momentarily deactivate and the clone would run across and board the Helichopper. The fence would then reactivate.
Having collected a clone, the Helichopper then had to fly across to the far left of the screen and land on one of the six platforms as it highlighted white. Only then could the clone be safely rescued.
Of course, the route across the screen was peppered with nasties of every conceivable kind. A swamp at the very bottom of the screen was to be avoided, along with the various enemies that lived in it, shooting at the Helichopper whenever they could.
The Helichopper could only fire downwards, so could only attack any of the nasties from above. If the nasties were above, then some adept flying was required to put the Helichopper on the offensive rather than the defensive!
Any contact at all with the enemy or their projectiles would cost the Helichopper one life. If a life was lost, the level was reset but the number of rescued clones thankfully remained as it was. However, to make matters worse the number of clones needing to be rescued would vary from one level to the next, as would the timer that made each level a race against the clock!
